A list of UK postboxes
Please have a look at the link below it’s a PDF of UK postboxes from Royal Mail. It might help you find or add postboxes near you. Unfortunately the postboxes are listed by their postcode and Royal Mail don’t have longitude and latitude coordinates which I need to add to the PostBoxr database. This was made available under the freedom of information act. To be able to open it you need to have a PDF reader on your computer. Any problems leave a comment and i’ll advise you.

You can use the Google Maps API to translate postcodes into lat/long. I think it’s called Geocoding.

Hi, thanks for your comment. Gecoding is the process which I use on the search page. But using this process to add postboxes would not be very accurate as postcodes can encompass a large area when compared to a postbox, which is why I think it’s better for users to add their known postboxes to the site because it would be much more accurate when it comes to latitude and longitude coordinates.
Thanks

Great site! I’ve just added a few I know about.
Maybe add the Royal Mail details into the database and then when people add postboxes, suggest, based on area, to the user which one from the official list it could be. You can then have the link between the official list and the actual location, making searches better, potentially removing/consolidating duplicates and e.g. if for some reason a postbox is removed (no longer appears on the official list) then the location can be deleted (or marked as “gone”) to save confusing people.

There is a useful website here:
http://www.pcs.planningportal.gov.uk/pcsportal/casesearch.asp
Click on “More” and then “Select point”, you then have a map pane where you can zoom in, to such a large scale that letter boxes are marked on the map (usually ‘LB’).
This is useful if the Royal Mail list just says “Station Road” and you want to find the exact location; also in rural locations where perhaps 2 boxes exist in one village and it’s not easy to tell where the two would be.
PS Only works for England!
